"A Day At The Zoo" was one of Tex Avery's early experiments with the "spot-gag" cartoon format- cartoons consisting of many short jokes about a particular subject, with no plot except for a narration that holds everything together. One-liners and sight gags during a narrated tour of the zoo, punctuated by a running gag involving Egghead teasing a lion at intervals, despite the narrator's admonishments. The Alcatraz Jail Bird cries out from his cage, "I didn't do it -- I was framed, I tell you!" The Stool Pigeon in the cage next to him says, "You did too do it, I saw you." The Rocky Mountain Wildcat jumps hysterically all around his cage. The narrator asks him, "What makes you so wild?" The wildcat answers, "They called my name out on bank night, and I wasn't there -- THAT makes me wild." Egghead ends up in the lion's stomach.

Caught in a thunderstorm, Felix seeks refuge in King Cole's castle. This King Cole is not only a merry old soul, but a boastful one as well. The castle's ghosts can't stand the king's bragging, so they strap him to a machine to suck the wind out of him. The ghosts expose him to the gas that exudes his boastings. The King learns it's not nearly as fun listening to his speech as it is making it. A fascinating sequence that has to be seen to be believed, it effectively exploits the essential unreality of animation.

Felix is feeding his various pets: a bird, two dogs, and a goldfish. But Annabelle the goldfish is unhappy; she's lonely. Felix sets out to catch her a friend. The fish drag him underwater. After a bit of searching, he finds a goldfish, but the fish cries for help, and Felix finds himself on trial before King Neptune. He's accused of wanting to eat the fish, but after he explains himself, Neptune gives him a fish from the fish orphanage, and everyone lives happily.

Felix is handing out relief, thanks to a goose that lays golden eggs. The evil Captain Kidd sees the goose and breaks into Felix's house to get it. He brings the goose to his pirate ship. Felix arrives too late to catch the ship. Goldie won't lay for the pirates. Felix sees a cannon and turns himself into a human cannonball to catch teh ship. With help from Goldie and another cannon, he subdues the crew, wrapping them in the sail and depositing them in the hold. He and Kidd have a swordfight, but their swords melt together. Kidd chases Felix up the mast, then foolishly cuts off his own support. He falls into the hold. They sail for home, where Felix fires off cannonloads of gold coins.

Flip the Frog was Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's first sound cartoon. It is about a happy-go-lucky, needy frog, named Flip the Frog. This cartoon was created by Ub Iwerks in 1930. He had drawn a frog and his girlfriend in "Night'", one of the last Silly Symphonies short films he drew while working for Walt Disney. After leaving Disney, Ub Iwerks began the Flip cartoon series with the help of Pat Powers. The first cartoon that Ub Iwerks made for the series was called Fiddlesticks (released on August 16, 1930), and it was also the first color sound cartoon ever made. Fiddlesticks was made in two-color Technicolor. The rest of the Flip series were made in black and white, except for Techno-Cracked (1933).

Flip is a dentist. A walrus in the waiting room is apprehensive when he hears the screams of earlier patients, but he is wrestled into the chair. Flip tries to pull the bad tooth, but keeps getting laundry, small cars, etc. He drills, but the bit breaks. Finally, he uses gas (a skunk) to put the walrus out. The walrus comes to just in time to find that Flip has put a lit stick of dynamite in his mouth. the demeted walrus removes his dentures and the dynamite, and puts them under Flip...

Visually great with a magnificent imitation of Charlie Chaplin and a few good sight gags (mostly chases). Nicely animated and worth watching.

Flip is trying to sell newspapers, but everything is against him, and he can't make a dime. Then a lady asks him to watch her baby and gives him a quarter, which the kid promptly swallows (along with some health tonic). The baby turns out to be a hideous brat who gives Flip a run for his money.

Flip serenades his cat-like girlfriend and the members of the neighborhood with some Ragtime music on his piano. But his concert disrupts the slumber of a mean old lady cow. She calls the police and Flip and his cat-like girlfriend are hauled off to jail.
